Matt Pedersen
NZIF Registered Forest Consultant
Matt graduated with a Diploma in Forestry Management from Wairakei Polytechnic in 1998 and is NZIF registered forestry consultant.
Matts forestry journey started in the 1980s when his parents became involved in the national farm forestry association at a regional and national level. Matt along with his parents and sister planted and tended multiple woodlots on their Northland sheep and beef property.
In 1992 Matt began his professional forestry career with a Northland management/consultancy firm. What started with two others pruning and planting for small clients, ended up in the early 2000s with a silviculture work force of nearly 30 employees plus other contractors undertaking operations from the Far North to Auckland and with Matt as the operations manager for these.
After an OE which collimated logging in Germany and Austria, Matt returned to NZ corporate forestry in NZ in 2009. Since then, Matt has worked in various roles from harvest management, logistics and cartage, ports and shipping through to asset management with overseeing FM management of large-scale estates across the North Island.
Within the wider industry in Northland, Matt is the current chair of the Northland Wood Council, as well chairing and sitting on other industry sector working groups with a focus on industry good benefits for all forest owners from large corporate to small woodlot owners.
