Jack Palmer

NZIF Registered Forest Consultant, BE(Hons)

Jack graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Engineering – Forestry in 2016 and after moving to Wellington, found himself on several projects for Forme based all around New Zealand. In 2023 Jack moved home to Christchurch and now spearheads all our South Island based work.

A registered member of the New Zealand Institute of Forestry, Jack is heavily involved in valuation work and due diligence for clients up and down the country. His experience using estate modelling tools such as Tigermoth and his knowledge around harvest planning, engineering solutions, environmental management and productivity research has proven to be well regarded and are a valuable contribution to the Forme team. He has been involved with the Emissions Trading Scheme in recent years and has gained a thorough understanding of carbon forestry and it’s inherent challenges and intricacies.

Jack has been active on the NZIF Council since June 2022 and is keen to increase the young person’s presence within the industry through his active involvement on the Executive Committee of the Future Foresters NZ.

In 2022 Jack was awarded the NZIF Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry. This award recognises the recipient’s engagement in and dedication to, the principles of sustainable forest management including policy, planning and practice and sound science based land stewardship. Awardees must be committed to public outreach and knowledge exchange focusing on the wise use and conservation of forests and the ecosystems that they encompass.

Outside of Jack’s passion for Forestry, he is an avid mountain biker and skier and can be found somewhere in the mountains.
